In Mould Gel Coating – A Radical New Approach!
Since our 2009 lapsed patent on this idea a new patent has been filled which supersedes all previous attempts and we are now pleased to announce a breakthrough technology. Named IMS. In Mould Surfacing – whereby it is now possible to demonstrate a low pressure method of adding gel coat finish to a moulded part as a second stage. Before, it was normal to apply gel coat as a the first stage but IMS involves injecting, in a closed mould, the cosmetic surface coat after moulding to cure stage , the structural composite part.
This development will radically change the composites industry and brings about a 21st century solution to the unacceptable open mould method involving spray or brush applying the gel coat finish.
This is the first public announcement so follow these posts here on IMS technology.
IMS uses a non contaminating silicone “condom” offset to replace the gel coat. After moulding and curing the glass reinforced part, the reusable silicone “condom” is removed and replaced with injected surface coat resin. So simple but highly effective `and virtually zero VOC’s .
